Growing Together: How Your Wig Can Grow With You

One of the greatest privileges of my work is not simply helping women find a wig. It is being part of their journey, sometimes for many years, and watching their confidence, style, and lives evolve along the way.

Recently, one appointment reminded me just how special that journey can be.

I first met this lovely client when she was very young, as she came to me for her very first human hair wig. Like many young girls, she was still discovering who she was, what she liked, and how she wanted to express herself.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of watching her grow into a confident young woman.

Looking Back

During her recent appointment, we spent time exploring new styles and choosing her next wig together.

As part of the consultation, she tried on one of her older wigs. She smiled and said something that really stayed with me.

She said it felt like the "little girl version" of herself.

It wasn't that there was anything wrong with the wig. It had been exactly right for her at that stage of her life.

But she had changed.

She had grown in confidence, discovered more about herself, and developed a style that felt more aligned with the woman she is today.

It was such a lovely moment because it perfectly captured something so many of us experience.

It's Okay for Your Style to Change

When we think about changing our wig, we often focus on practical reasons such as colour, length, or wear.

But sometimes, the reason is much simpler.

You've changed.

Just as our clothes, hairstyles, and personal tastes evolve throughout life, the wig that once felt perfect may no longer reflect who you are today.

That is completely normal.

Your style isn't meant to stay the same forever.

The person you were five years ago is not the person you are today, and that's something to embrace, not resist.

Your Needs May Change Too

It's not only your style that changes over time.

Your lifestyle, daily routine, career, confidence, and priorities can all influence what feels right for you.

Perhaps you now prefer a softer density.

Maybe you're drawn to a different length or colour.

You might want something lighter for everyday wear, or perhaps you're ready to try a style you've never felt confident enough to wear before.

There are no rules.

The right wig is simply the one that feels like you, right now.

More Than Choosing a Wig

Appointments like this remind me that my role isn't just about helping someone select a wig.

It's about listening.

Understanding.

Supporting each client through every chapter of their journey.

Sometimes that means celebrating a completely new look.

Sometimes it means making subtle changes.

And sometimes it simply means recognising that the person sitting in front of me has grown, and their hair should grow with them.

It Is a Privilege

Watching clients grow over the years is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

To meet someone as a young girl and later welcome her back as a confident young woman choosing a style that reflects who she has become is incredibly special.

It is a reminder that hair is about so much more than appearance.

It can represent confidence, identity, milestones, and new beginnings.

At Sharni Knighton Hair Loss Clinic, our focus is not on preventing hair loss. We help women manage hair loss with wigs and toppers that feel natural, comfortable, and confidence building.

Whether you're choosing your very first wig or you're ready for something that reflects the next chapter of your life, your journey deserves to evolve with you.

And being trusted to walk alongside clients through those moments is something I will never take for granted.
