Choosing the right wig size and length can feel overwhelming, especially if you are new to wigs or hair replacement. To make the process easier, we’ve created a collection of simple measurement and length guides to help you feel more confident when choosing your piece.

Below, you’ll find step-by-step guides on how to measure your head correctly, understand wig sizing, and compare where different wig lengths are likely to sit on the body. As wig lengths are measured from the crown of the head rather than the nape, they can fall very differently from hair extensions.

Please remember that everybody is different, and factors such as height, posture, shoulder width, and hair texture can all affect how a wig fits and falls. Many wigs can also be customised slightly for a more personalised fit during the customisation process.

If you are still unsure which size or length would be best for you, Sharni is always happy to guide you before ordering.

Wig Sizing & Custom Fit Guidance

Because we know, finding the right wig size can feel overwhelming, especially if your measurements do not fall neatly into a standard size category. If you have measured your head and feel that you sit somewhere in between sizes, please don’t worry  this is incredibly common and completely normal.

Every head shape is unique, and standard sizing should always be used as a guide rather than a strict rule. The most important thing is creating a wig that feels secure, comfortable, and natural for you to wear.

For our ready-to-ship wigs, adjustments can often be made in the back section to create a more personalised fit. Areas such as ear-to-ear and front-to-back measurements can usually be adapted during the customisation process. The main measurement we work from is your head circumference, as this cannot be altered, and a wig that is too small may feel uncomfortable to wear.

If you choose one of our custom-made options, your wig can be created from scratch using your own head measurements for a more tailored fit and finish.

This service is not limited to in-clinic appointments. If you are ordering online, you can submit your measurements during the customisation process, allowing Sharni to adapt your wig for you before it is sent out.

Sharni's focus is always on helping you in a way that feels supportive, realistic, and aligned with your lifestyle. Even if you do not fit perfectly into a standard wig size, there is almost always a solution that can be personalised around you.

Wig lengths are measured from the crown (top centre) of the head rather than the nape of the neck, which means they can fall very differently compared to hair extensions. Factors such as your height, shoulder width, posture, and hair texture can all affect where the length sits on the body, with wavy and curly styles often appearing slightly shorter than straight hair.At Sharni Knighton Hair Loss Clinic, we specialise in longer hair wigs and currently work with lengths from 14” and above. As a long hair specialist, Sharni understands how important it is for your wig to feel natural, wearable, and aligned with your personal style. Many of our wigs can also be personalised during the customisation process. Depending on the piece chosen, clients may request adjustments such as adding layers, changing the fringe shape, softening the density around the face, or creating a more lived-in finish to better suit their preferences and lifestyle.Clients are also welcome to send inspiration images during the customisation process to help communicate the style, finish, or overall look they are hoping to achieve. This allows Sharni to create a result that feels more personalised and aligned with your individual style preferences.

We are pleased to offer multiple ways to explore and purchase wigs at Sharni Knighton Hair Loss Clinic, allowing you to choose the experience that feels most comfortable and supportive for you.

Clients can now shop both our ready-to-ship collection and our custom-made wig options online as well as in person, with or without a consultation. We understand that everybody’s hair loss journey and comfort levels are different, which is why we aim to create flexible options that work around you.

Our website now includes a selection of ready-to-ship wigs available for immediate purchase, giving you greater visibility of what is currently available within the clinic.

To help make the process simple and clear, each wig will be labelled within the description:

• Ready to Ship – Fully finished and available for immediate purchase
• Custom Made – Built from scratch using your chosen measurements, colour, length, density, and style preferences

Once your wig has been purchased, we can work together in a way that suits you best, whether that is via email, video consultation, or in-person appointments. Every client has access to the same level of support and customisation options for their chosen purchase, regardless of how they choose to purchase.

Our custom-made wigs can be fully built from scratch, including your chosen wig cap size ( custom size if required ), hair length, colour, density, and overall style preferences. These options can all be selected during the purchasing process to create a piece that feels more aligned with you and your lifestyle.

For our ready-to-ship wigs, smaller personalisation adjustments can often still be made, including subtle cap adaptations and styling refinements. Clients are also welcome to send inspiration images during the customisation process to help communicate the look and finish they are hoping to achieve.

If your measurements do not sit perfectly within a standard wig size, please do not worry. This is very common, and in many cases, we can make careful adjustments to improve the wig's fit and overall comfort.

This approach has been designed to give you more flexibility, visibility, and confidence throughout the process, whether you are looking for something ready-to-wear or a more personalised custom experience.
